Kreative FM Podcast: Episode 1

by Lindy

Kreative FM Show Notes | Episode 1 | 8/28/13

In this podcast episode of Kreative FM I talk about my procrastination (it’s been four months since I published my intro episode) – thoughts, ideas and inspiration that battle doubt, fear and the busyness of life.

I also introduce my new co-host and husband, Jonathan, who will help keep me accountable to publishing new episodes and add more entertainment and engagement to the podcast. We’re celebrating our ten year anniversary this week, so we’ve decided that after a decade of working independently on our careers and projects, that we’re going to start working more collaboratively and combining our skillsets. How romantic is that?!

We’d like to take a moment to remind anyone listening that we’re not professional radio hosts, voice over talents or broadcasters. Please bear with us as we develop our voices in this new realm.

Our main focus of this first episode is to discuss creativity and the types of media we consume regularly for inspiration. Jonathan: Pandora, Spotify, You Tube, Flipboard, Stitcher, The Onion, Netflix, Vimeo. Lindy: blogs, Twitter, SoundCloud, YouTube, Stitcher, Ted Talks, Tumblr, Instagram, iTunes U.

We play some soundbites from various media with limited success due to our wonky internet speed. The only thing that successfully played without a hitch was a vinyl record on the record player.

My favorite part of the show was when Jonathan says, “I’ll show you my spreadsheets.”

Pandora Love: Bittersweet Symphony

by Lindy

I was so happy when I changed the Pandora Radio channel from Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros to R.E.M. this morning! One of my favorite songs came on and put me in a great mood. Memories flooded back of driving in my car with this song playing full blast – many times.

Cruel Intentions

It was also featured at the end of the Cruel Intentions movie – which was epic.

The R.E.M. channel is playing all my favorite 90s faves today – especially classic Pearl Jam! It’s great music to work and think creatively to.

Orange is the New Black: Binge Viewing and Detoxing

by Lindy

This past month, I rapidly digested all 13 episodes of Orange is the New Black. Now I feel anxious and agitated waiting for Season 2 of OITNB to be released on Netflix. The eerily-catchy theme song (“You’ve Got Time” by Regina Spektor) continues to loop in my head as do the images of the close up faces of various inmates.

“Look at all the roads. Think of all their crossings. Taking steps is easy. Standing still is hard. Remember all their faces. Remember all their voices. Everything is different the second time around.”

The last scene from the last episode is permanently engraved in my memory where Piper proceeds to kick the living $h!t out of Pennsatucky, in which I simultaneously cheered and groaned, knowing that Piper would be severely disciplined over it.

Apparently the series is based off an actual memoir by Piper Kerman and her own experiences in prison. I must read it ASAP to get my fix until season 2 is released. I can’t handle the suspense.

The show makes you ponder on how you would handle being incarcerated if you were in her shoes and trying to navigate the corruptness and craziness of an institution. At first I thought, 15 months isn’t that long of a sentence; no problem. Then you see how people and situations start breaking Piper down (as it had other inmates), the choices she’s faced with, how she handles them, and their consequences.

In the meantime, I read a funny article in Paste Magazine about Ten Best Orange is the New Black Quotes Illustrated. Here are my two faves from their list.

“Bitches gots to learn” | Photo Credit: Paste Magazine

I also loved it when Crazy Eyes told Piper, “You gotta clean from the inside out” when they were mopping the bathroom.

But the most epic quote is when one of Larry’s Jewish parents said, “I get it. She’s a natural blond. She’s exotic to you.” I wish they would create that design; I would buy the t-shirt!
